Clara-Sophie Baschant has been a PhD researcher and member of the Governance and Sustainability Research Group at Leuphana University since March 2025. She holds a BA degree in Political Science from the University of Mannheim and a MSc degree in Politics, Economics and Philosophy from the University of Hamburg.
Her research focuses on the governance factors of sustainability transitions, specifically how external shocks, different actors, and justice concerns affect transition processes towards more sustainable modes of production. She also works as a lecturer for the sustainability faculty.
Before joining the research group, Clara Baschant was a student assistant at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy (IFSH) in Hamburg, where she supported a PhD thesis analyzing the interconnections between climate change and security policy. She gained experience in the field of international climate policy through her work as a Carlo Schmid Fellow at the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) and as an intern at the German Agency for International Development Cooperation (GIZ).
